Christoph Rode was appointed as the new Managing Director of T-Systems in the UK in January 2016 and has placed Corporate Responsibility (CR) at the core of the business.  “The strategy of T-Systems Limited includes a workstream dedicated to making T-Systems a better company to work for. This includes initiatives to better engage our workforce and to attract diverse talent and also to make a positive impact on society. This might be through deployment of our products and services or by providing our time and expertise to support good causes that are close to our hearts.”

Awards and Memberships

  • Best Companies Survey 2018 has accredited T-Systems Limited in the category “ones to watch”. The annual Best Companies Survey helps organizations to gain a competitive advantage by measuring, recognizing and improving employee engagement levels. The results are published annually in a Sunday Times supplement and can also be viewed here.
  • ESOS Compliance: The Energy Savings Opportunities Scheme (ESOS) is the UK’s equivalent of the European Energy Directive. T-Systems Limited engaged a third-party assessor to audit its major locations and energy usage, and successfully met the deadline defined by the EU and the UK government.
  • Vercida / Diversity JobsT-Systems has partnered with Vercida since 2016 to encourage job applications from talented candidates who share our values, and to promote diversity in our workforce.  A link to T-Systems profile page can be found here.
  • Modern MuseT-Systems is a founding partner of the Modern Muse initiative which aims to encourage more young girls into STEM img industries while providing them with access to women with successful careers in relevant disciplines.  T-Systems instigated a partner user group and actively engages young people through our schools outreach program.

Corporate & Social Responsibility (CSR) Program 2017

T-Systems in the UK wants to be the company of choice for customers seeking a socially and environmentally responsible technology partner with leading cloud-based services, mobility solutions and secure intelligent networks. It also aims to attract employees seeking a professional and respectful environment to fulfill their career ambitions. The Corporate & Social Responsibility (CSR) SteerCo meets once a month to develop the social and environmental initiatives that underpin the strategy and meet the needs for our objective of being recognized as one of the best companies to work for in the UK.

In 2017, we focused on the following activities:

Social & Community Engagement. We have revitalized the charitable “giving something back” strategy which encourages all staff to take paid time off work to carry out charitable activities. In order to achieve the target of 5,000 hours of charity work, we have engaged with seven local charities to provide a defined portfolio of volunteering opportunities for our staff. Our charity engagement and fund raising also includes regular coffee mornings in aid of Macmillan Cancer Research, participation in the annual UK Challenge Event in aid of Shelterbox, and a Christmas event that includes collections for local foodbanks and children’s charities, and participation in the Thames Bridges Trek 2017.

Low Carbon Society. A team made up of different departments at T-Systems UK has championed new ways of working to help reduce the time and energy spent travelling to and from work. The aim is to “work smart” and use the collaboration platforms and tools to reduce travel, our carbon footprint, and costs. We are measuring the reduction in business miles and the increased usage of tools such as video conferencing. In comparison to 2016, Air Travel (number of flights) has reduced by 20% as our new ways of working, digital options and tools allow our people to work smarter whilst reducing our carbon footprint.

Employee Engagement.  In 2017, The CSR team launched a Wellbeing Calendar, focusing on a different wellbeing topic each month ranging from drinking less caffeine, more water, taking care in the sun or doing more exercise.  The aim of the calendar is to help our staff to balance their lives and bring the right energy to the workplace.  One topic we focused on was personal financial wellbeing where we helped our teams to better understand their pensions and benefits, and to plan for the future.  In addition to the wellbeing calendar, we also rolled out a new digital training course on health and safety in the workplace, and diversity and inclusion to raise awareness and improve the way we operate as a business.

Market Engagement We recognize that the UK market values a responsible approach to business and we participated in the Responsible Business Summit 2017. We actively involve the CSR community in our new business and bid processes, thereby ensuring that our positive contributions are visible to sourcing advisors and customers alike.

Employee Engagement How much a company “gives back” is important in terms of employee satisfaction and pride in the organization. It also exerts a material effect on the dedication of employees and their effectiveness. We have therefore embarked on a concerted and company-wide awareness campaign. This was launched with the third Festival of Discovery held on 10 March 2016. The festival gives staff from different locations, service lines, and accounts a chance to meet and learn more about the strengths and direction of our business. It included a presentation to all staff on the importance of CSR for our business and the market overall. We also presented our CSR Program at “lunch ’n’ learn”. Our employees are also able to read about the different activities and our engagement on the intranet.

Sponsorship of “Every woman in technology” awards

T-Systems Limited partnered with Everywoman in 2013 and is now an active member of the network. Everywoman is a membership organization that has championed the advancement of women in business since its foundation in 1999.  It works alongside companies looking to develop and retain a pipeline of female leaders who want to advance themselves and others.

In 2017, we rebranded our own Everywoman community – which is now known as Diversi-T. It has a broader focus on ensuring that T-Systems is a truly inclusive environment where all diversity is supported and championed.  The aim of the network is to help staff connect and stay inspired by providing the opportunity to network internally and externally. There are also opportunities to attend in-company webinars, bi-monthly meetings and an annual event to hear and learn from each other and from other tech companies leading in diversity. 

As part of our commitment to Diversi-T, the Board and all people managers received training in unconscious bias and how this can affect recruitment, personal development and other core processes.  The most positive outcome of this training was to allow the conversation on diversity and bias to become more open. 

While our Everywoman Program has evolved into Diversi-T, we are still very committed to helping to close the gender gap in the ICT img industry and attend the “Everywoman in Technology” awards each year taking some of our customers with us to help build our brand and maintain a broad client relationship. The awards play a vital part in highlighting role models whose stories and achievements demonstrate to those young women and girls that they too can achieve great success if they opt to forge a career in IT.  With this in mind, T-Systems sponsors the “rising star” award for women in tech under the age of 26.  Christoph Rode, MD of T-Systems Limited sits on the judging panel and will present the award on the night.

T-Systems views the Diversi-T Program as an important part of its strategy and will continue to support it in 2018.
